SHEDO was founded in 2018 as a compassionate response by a group of educated, dynamic and like-minded individuals to address the most urgent and pressing needs of the people of Afghanistan.

Social Humanitarian Educational and Development Organization (SHEDO) is women-led non-government and nonprofit civil society organization based in Nangrahar province SHEDO was found in 2018 and registered with the Ministry of Economy (Moe) of Afghanistan under the license number: 5261.

SHEDO is an organization wishing to impact and change peoples’ lives towards sustainable development influencing people not to lose hope but to “STEP UP” and claim their place and space in all spheres of life through information, empowerment, skills development and providing the necessary resources and mentorship. Women and girls are a significant target group of SHEDO in this process.

Considering our association with the development sector, we are acquainted with the problems plaguing the country. Consequently, SHEDO’s focus has not been kept limited either in terms of geography or sector. SHEDO offers its services in the areas of Education, Gender Equality, Advocacy, Human Rights, Agriculture, Humanitarian Relief, Health, Capacity Building, Peace, and Community Cohesion.

SHEDO aims to lighten the path ahead to stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in Afghanistan. We are the lamp bearers committed to empowering and walking alongside vulnerable Afghan communities, facilitating their journey towards self-reliance and prosperity.

The type of activities undertaken by SHEDO focus on the deprived and marginalized segments of the society of which women and girls are the first priority groups. Whereas in terms of operations what characterizes SHEDO’s functioning are its efforts to (a) enlist involvement of the locals when initiating activities at the grass root level; and (b) mobilize local communities for bringing peace, innovation, and development in society.
